About me

Born in Correggio, Reggio Emilia, Andrea Brighenti reveals great passion for drawing from a very young age.

After graduating at the Venturi Institute of Art in Modena, he specialized in the graphite technique creating numerous hyperrealistic works.

Since 2020, he has also experimented with pastels, expanding his knowledge of the medium by studying with masters Rubén Belloso Adorna and Fabio Cuffari.

Brighenti begins his artistic research with graphite portraits, honing his technical skills while researching the most realistic and expressive renditions hinting at the backstories of his subjects.

The depiction of the human body, caught in the wonder of small details, measured gestures, and glances, is soft yet piercingly sharp thanks to the use of warm direct lights and contrasting shadings.

Upon learning the pastel technique, Brighenti becomes fascinated with the use of color, elevating his work with hues and chromatic contrasts giving life to the subjects’ complexions and fabrics texture, offering an almost tactile feel to his paintings.

The depiction of the human body, caught in the wonder of small details, measured gestures, and glances, is soft yet piercingly sharp thanks to the use of warm direct lights and contrasting shadings.

The observer is given a glimpse of a story, and craves to understand more by reading through the details as if they were a lyric.

The portrait becomes an allegory, no longer representing a particular subject but rather an aspect of life, filling the eyes and soul of the observer with bittersweet feelings of nostalgic wonder.

One of his pastel paintings series is dedicated to images of women, who the artist approaches with respect and admiration.

In this series, the observer feels as if they can breathe the same atmosphere as that of the ethereal Renaissance women, dramatically portrayed in dimly-lit rooms while enveloped in luxurious velvety drapes.

The artist pays tribute to the great masters of the Italian Golden Age, homaging their craft’s legacy while expanding it with a modern-day insight.

Brighenti’s talent is transforming daily life scenes into silent narratives fraught with emotional passion. Uninterested in the outworn pursue of absolute beauty, he seeks to capture the true essence of his subjects by honoring their imperfections through a lyricism-infused realism.
